It all began in 1890 when Karen Volf, a young visionary
confectioner, opened her first bakery in a small town in
Denmark. Karen’s cookies, known for their perfect taste
and refined shape, quickly became very popular with
the local customers, and soon people from the
bordering towns flocked to Karen’s Bakery to try her
amazing baking.
News of Karen’s cookies even made it to the Danish
Royal Family who also came to taste the renowned
cookies. As a result, Karen’s Bakery became the first
bakery ever to be awarded “Purveyor to the Royal
Danish Court” in 1952.
Karen’s amazing cookies gained a nationwide following
and soon thereafter, became an international success,
all because of a talented female entrepreneur ahead of
her time. Entrepreneurship, innovation, and a passion
for great craftsmanship are values Karen’s Bakery is still
operating by today.
That is a true Danish fairy tale
